Original Dr. Scholl's, Paul Frank Create Limited Edition Sandal

ST. LOUIS, February 8, 2003 -- Paul Frank's beloved monkey icon Julius will be featured on Original Dr. Scholl's Exercise Sandals this spring. Dr. Scholl's is partnering with Paul Frank Industries, a fashion and accessories company based in Newport Beach, Calif., to introduce three limited edition sandals.

Dr. Scholl's Paul Frank Signature Sandals, offered in tan, red and blue, sport two distinctive top-strap designs featuring Julius, the wide-mouthed monkey that has made Paul Frank a favorite with teens and 20-somethings. The sandals maintain the classic Dr. Scholl's look with the adjustable buckle, lightweight Italian wood bottom and raised toe crest.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with one of the most influential companies in fashion and entertainment for the first Dr. Scholl's co-branded venture," said Lisa Hanly, brand director for Dr. Scholl's. "Paul Frank brings a unique and fresh twist to the Exercise Sandal, a fashion staple for women of all ages."

Dr. Scholl's Paul Frank Signature Sandals will be available for a limited time in Paul Frank Boutiques and fine specialty retail outlets beginning in April.

"We love the authentic style of Original Dr. Scholl's," said Paul Frank, founder and designer director of Paul Frank Industries. "We've added our special touch to the sandal and packaging. The sandals will be a coveted item among our avid collectors."

Dr. Scholl's introduced the first wooden-soled Exercise Sandal in 1956. Easily recognized by the buckle and the wooden sole, the sandals inspired the chunky shoes and clogs that were popular in the late '60s and '70s. The '90s brought the sandal again to the forefront of fashion, with appearances on runways and in Vogue magazine. Today, the classic sandals have become a favorite of fashion editors and have been featured in the pages of Lucky, Seventeen, People, US Weekly and In Style.
